Ivers is a small residential Training Establishment for young adults with learning disabilities. It is registered with Dorset County Council. It provides a homely, caring, personal environment in which young people can mature, develop confidence, learn to relate to other people and require skills for life which might enable them to live more independently in the community. There is occupancy available for twenty individuals. The large county house, its extensions, large gardens and paddocks are situated in the village of Marnhull, near Sturminster Newton, between Shaftesbury and Sherborne. Much emphasis is placed upon the acquisition of life skills, which include Personal care, Laundry, Cooking Shopping, Money Management etc, as well as the continuing development and reinforcement of basic literacy and numeracy skills. All these skills are practised daily, as individuals learn to be responsible for the tidiness and cleaning of their own rooms and the rest of the house and gardens.
